The Sierra exterior is similar to the other 2100 Sierra models without hybrid engine. In the Sierra Hybrid there are lower panels and nice green stripes with sign “hybrid” typed on them. In the Hybrid model there are also a “hybrid” badge on the rear window. The badges are also on the side mirrors and on the tailgate. Inside the crew cab can seat five or six adult people. The interior differences in Sierra hybrid is a “hybrid” badge right on tachometer and very useful fuel economy gauge. The navigation system is optional.

General Motors applied the two-mode hybrid system in its Sierra pickup. It enables “full” hybrid operations. Electric engine can be used to to cruise up to 20 mph. The V-8 gasoline unit launches when more power or acceleration is needed and of course at high speed. To gain the best performance, the electric units and gasoline engine work together. The Sierra Hybrid has got under the hood a 6.0-liter V-8 together with GM’s Electrically Variable Transmission. This is a gearbox that integrates double 60-kilowatt electric motors. The electric units draw power is taken from a 300-volt battery pack. The battery can recharge itself off from the generated power from the brakes. The gasoline engine generates 332 horsepower with a towing capacity of 6,100 pounds with rear-wheel drive version. Four wheel drive generates towing of 5,900 pounds — not as much as the regular Sierra’s 10,500-pound maximum towing capacity. It isn’t a bad result for a hybrid.
